Become the Writer You've Always Wanted to Be.

Inside HappyWriter, creative writers like you come together to support one another, get answers to the questions you can’t Google, learn from experts, participate in challenges, and so much more.

Writing is hard, but you don't have to do it alone.

No one needs to tell you that writing is hard. The path is filled with loneliness, doubt, confusion on how to write, little to no support from other writers, no access to agents, and the fear that your heart’s work will be rejected. It’s no wonder why so many writers burn out and ultimately give up on their dreams!

These struggles are just part of your writing journey. But, to get that project done, you’re going to have to overcome them one-by-one. It won’t be easy. But your probability of success—telling your story and seeing it published—is dramatically improved by joining and growing in a community of writers who share your values, grit, and a common goal.

HappyWriter is like the best parts of Facebook combined with a creative writing MFA.

HappyWriter is a community for creative writers motivated by continued growth, giving and receiving accountability, hard work, and a shared love of storytelling. It’s like the best parts of Facebook had a baby with a top-tier MFA program.

Say Hello to the HappyWriter Team

Brian Murphy

Founder and Educator

I founded How Writers Write in November of 2019 with one mission: to inspire and empower writers to tell their story.

After interviewing 50+ authors and coaching hundreds of writers, I realized the big keys to helping writers are community, accountability, craft education, personal development, and access to industry professionals. HappyWriter was born out of this realization. It is my life’s mission to serve this generation of writers.

I live in Denver, Colorado with my amazing wife, two perfect daughters, and goldendoodle.

Abby Mathews

Community Manager

Here at Happy Writer, Abby has the very stuffy title of Community Manager. That’s just a fancy way of saying if there’s something you want to happen in the Happy Writer community, she’s your Westley. (Or your Dread Pirate Roberts, since everyone’s wearing a mask these days. They’re terribly comfortable.)

Abby also manages the educational content of HappyWriter–coordinating with our amazing line-up of coaches and authors to bring world-class education to HappyWriter.

Monthly Guest Educators

Each month, guest educators share their best tips, tricks, and writing lessons through online classes, accountability programs, community discussions, live QA, and even writing challenges.

She specializes in helping writers uncover the emotional core of their stories so they can punch readers in the heart. You can learn more about Dani at https://www.daniabernathy.com/.
